Lucknow: The Opposition BJP on Wednesday raised the issue of cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh Assembly and alleged police officials in Ghaziabad had recently helped slaughter of as many as 200 of `sacred' animals to make a fast buck. Narendra Singh Sisodia (BJP), while demanding an adjournment of the proceedings to discuss the issue, claimed a few days ago that policemen from three police stations had rounded up shepherds from Rajasthan, who had come to this side of the border to help their cattle graze on fresh fodder. "However, they slaughtered 200 cows and made lakhs of rupees in the process," he added. When Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey suggested he take up the matter under a different rule and get a statement from the Government tomorrow, the agitated member rushed to the well of the House. Leader of the Opposition and BJP legislature party leader Lalji Tandon said cow slaughter was against the laws of the land and demanded that the guilty be punished. Mr Sisodia claimed after the incident, the local populace was agitated and there were chances of a communal divide over the issue. While assuring suitable action, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohd Azam Khan said the issue of a communal divide should not be attached. -- UNI
