AHINDA to protest against opposition to quota proposal

`Dismiss doctors opposing the Centre's move'


Demands
  • The reservation policy should cover technological, medical and management institutes too
  • It should be based on the population of SCs, STs and OBCs in the 2001 Census
  • The policy should be applied while making recruitments to the judiciary and government organisations

    MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada unit of AHINDA, a federation of Dalits, minorities and backward classes, will stage a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on May 22 in protest against those opposing the Centre's move to reserve seats for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in higher educational institutions.

    Lolaksha, member of the AHINDA unit, told presspersons here on Wednesday that the demonstration would be held to create awareness among the federation members to unite against those opposing the Centre's move.

    The Government should reserve seats for admissions in all aided and non-aided private educational institutions. It should also cover all technological institutes, medical and management institutes. The reservation should be based on the population of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and OBCs in the 2001 Census, he said.

    AHINDA has demanded that the reservation policy be applied while making recruitments to the judiciary and government organisations The Government should bring the private sector under the reservation policy to ensure that 50 per cent of the total workforce was reserved for SCs, STs and OBCs.

    Mr. Lolaksha said that those belonging to the OBCs made up 55 per cent of the country's population. The Centre had taken a right step in proposing to provide 27 per cent reservation in admissions to higher education institutions, he said.

    The Government should dismiss from service doctors who were opposing the Centre's move, Mr. Mr. Lolaksha added.
