The following were the rates (Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale market on Thursday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce & Industry: groundnut oil-52.50, palmolein oil-41.75, sunflower oil-48, tamarind (flower variety)-26 to 38, tamarind (karipuli variety)-42 to 50, chillies (new)-35 to 45, rice 2716-13, rice super fine-15, rice Sona Masuri-16 to 17, Samba Masoori-15 to 16, black gram (pottu minappappu)-41.50 and red gram (Kandipappu) desavali-25.50 to 30.50.

Official flayed

The CPI (M) on Wednesday criticised Municipal Commissioner N. Gulzar for calling for tenders for maintenance of Head Water works, saying it was against the MCH resolution.
