Instant Money Order facility launched

The PostMaster General, Western Region, Tamil Nadu circle, K.V. Sundar Rajan, launched Instant Money Order (iMO) at the Coimbatore Head Post Office on Wednesday. He said that this service was available at the Head Post Offices in Tirupur, Salem and Coimbatore. In this service, the payee had to collect the amount from the Post Office. Currently, there were 24 iMO centres in 11 cities in the country. A minimum of Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 50,000 could be sent through this system.

21 arrested

COIMBATORE: Police removed 21 Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam activists, including its State general secretary, K. Ramakiruttinan, on Wednesday when they squatted on the railway line at the Podanur Railway Station to protest the termination of metre gauge trains at this station. The protest held up trains for nearly an hour.

The activists said people found it difficult to travel from the city to Podanur to board these trains. For those who travelled every day, the bus charge was proving to be costlier than the train season ticket. They demanded the restoration of the services up to the Coimbatore Railway Junction.
