Four killed in accidents

CHENNAI: Three persons, including a woman, were killed in accidents in city on Tuesday.

Three accidents were reported in different parts of the city on Tuesday in which three persons including a woman lost her life. The first accident was reported around 6.50 a.m. on Inner Ring Road near the Padi junction. Police said Anwar Basha, a mango vendor of Pammal, was returning home from Madhavaram with his wife Khairunnisa in the pillion when a lorry hit the two-wheeler from behind. Khairunnisa was thrown off the vehicle and was run over by the lorry.

She sustained serious injuries and died on way to hospital. Tirumangalam police arrested lorry driver T. Nagarajan of Ponneri.

The second accident occurred around 9.15 a.m. on GNT Road near Puzhal prison complex. S.Vijaya Kandeepan (43), who was riding a two-wheeler was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle.

He dashed against an iron barricade on the road margin and died on the spot. A resident of Sector X in K.K.Nagar, he was working as a professor in a private polytechnic.

In the third accident near SRP Tools bus stop on Old Mahabalipuram Road, a 40-year-old man fell from a moving MTC bus and died.

Police said the victim, M.Vadivel, a fruit vendor in Adyar had boarded M-5 bus (Adyar to Kelambakkam) in the morning. While the bus was nearing SRP Tools bus stop, he tried to get down.

He fell down died on the spot. In another accident, an unknown cyclist died on the spot at around 3.30 p.m., when a mini-bus hit him near the Koyambedu Bridge off Subhamangalam Apartments from Tirumangalam. Tirumangalam police are investigating.
