HYDERABAD: A major fire broke out in a godown of a tent house at the National Police Academy in Sivarampally on Wednesday afternoon.

However, no casualties were reported.

District Fire Officer G. V. Narayana Rao said the fire might have been caused due to sparks when a group of workers were attending repair works with welding machines.

The workers immediately alerted the fire personnel who in turn rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The mishap occurred at 3.35 p.m. Four fire tenders from Chandulal Baradari, Moghalpura, Malakpet and Langer Houz, which were pressed into service to put-off the flames.

We are yet to ascertain the exact property loss though the godown owners claimed that the loss might be around Rs. 50 lakhs," the Fire Officer said.

Crockery material, tents, carpets and decorative material used for erecting stages during marriage functions were reduced to ashes.
