Corrections and clarifications

A promo on May 18, 2006, page 1 read: "Viv Richard's Column". A few readers have pointed out that as his name is Vivian Richards, it should have been "Viv Richards's Column" or "Viv Richards' Column".

Upendra Baxi was incorrectly referred to as the former Vice-Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University ("Medha Patkar meets President", May 18, 2006). He was a former VC of the Delhi University. He was a part of the team, led by Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar, which met the Shunglu panel.

There was a factual error in "How Kerala voted" ("More to it than meets the eye", May 17, 2006), an analysis of the results of the recent assembly elections in Kerala. In the table "LDF's region-wise gains: More votes in Malabar, but more seats in Travancore", and under the heading "Region/Districts", Palakkad was wrongly listed as being a part of Kochi. It is a part of Malabar.

In "Move to prohibit plastic bags in zoo" (Hyderabad city, May 17, 2006, page 3), a report on the steps being taken at the city's Nehru Zoological Park to help the animals, the caption of the accompanying photograph wrongly identified the animal to be a chimpanzee. It is an orangutan, as a reader says. An orangutan has morphological differences in comparison to the chimpanzee. They lie in the large body shape and the hair colour, golden grey in the case of the orangutan. In contrast, the chimpanzee has a relatively smaller body size and black body hair.
