K-MAT to be held on July 2

Staff Reporter

The test is for admission to MBA and MCA courses in private colleges

  • Applications will be made available online and at colleges
  • Results will be announced online within 48 hours after K-MAT

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Private Postgraduate Colleges' Association will conduct its common entrance test, K-MAT, on July 2 for admission to MBA and MCA courses.

Application forms will be available between May 25 and June 25 at colleges which are members of the association and also on the Internet. Admission cards and e-cards will be made available online and at member-colleges. Results will be available online within 48 hours after K-MAT.

As per the recommendations of the S. Venkataraman Committee, all private colleges offering the MBA and MCA courses have to conduct a single test, and the admission process should be based on a single-window system and centralised counselling. This has been laid down in the admission policy notification issued by the State Government and the Supreme Court judgment in the Inamdar case, association secretary M. Prakash said in a release.

He said the Venkataraman Committee had criticised colleges which had made admissions on the basis of all-India tests. These colleges had been instructed to give an explanation on the admission process adopted. "Colleges which have sought permission to make admissions on the basis of all-India examinations have been warned of risks of admissions made by them, leading to appropriate action by the committee in accordance with the law," Mr. Prakash said.

Admissions to 72 colleges offering the MBA course and 62 colleges offering the MCA course will be based on K-MAT. The details of the test are available on the website, www.kmat2006.com.

The Government will hold a separate entrance test to fill seats in government and university colleges offering the MBA and MCA courses. This test date is expected to be announced soon.
