MUMBAI: The case of the Rs. 6-crore heist in the Alukkas showroom in Hyderabad on May 15 was solved, following the arrest of two persons by the Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police on Thursday. The police recovered the stolen jewellery from Vinod Rambali Singh (38) and Ajay Jawahar Singh (48), who were picked up from Dahisar, a western suburb, nearly 40 km away from South Mumbai. The police said Vinod Rambali Singh was a member of an inter-State-gang of robbers who had been arrested 18 times in cases of house-breaking, burglary and robbery. He had always secured bail only to jump it and commit more offences. Special Correspondent adds from Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K. Jana Reddy announced a reward of Rs. 10 lakh each to the Mumbai and Hyderabad City police personnel. A jubilant Mr. Jana Reddy, who faced flak from the Opposition for a string of crimes in the capital, told reporters that Vinod Rambali Singh was picked up from a Mumbai Hotel in less than three days after the crime. Ajay Jawahar Singh, on the other hand, was a diamond dealer from Surat, who acted as an intermediary between criminals and receivers of stolen valuables. Srikanth Singh, who was also involved in actual commission of theft, was absconding, he said. Mr. Jana Reddy said the city police would question the two after a few days after seeking their custody from the Mumbai court on Prisoners Transit warrant. He said Vinod Rambali Singh was a native of Uttar Pradesh who had been externed from Mumbai. He was released from jail only on March 25.
Summoned
The city police had been regularly exchanging information with their Mumbai counterparts ever since robbers intercepted a car and robbed some jewellers of 6 kg of gold near Nampally last year.
