NELLORE: Sri Venkateswara University Doctorates Association has welcomed the University Grants Commission's (UGC) decision to exempt candidates with a PhD or M Phil degrees from appearing for the mandatory National Eligibility Test (NET) for the post of lecturers. In a statement, association president Dr Y V Rami Reddy on Thursday said that the commission's decision to accept recommendation of the Mungerkar Committee's interim report would give fillip to research activity in all universities. Moreover, the UGC's decision to increase the number of scholarships for PhD students, post-doctoral scholars and research associates in science and social streams would help the student community on many fronts, association secretary Dr P C Venkateswarlu said.
