Update on brachytherapy

The Bangalore Institute of Oncology will host `The National Brachytherapy Update 2006' on Saturday and Sunday to discuss recent advances in this field of treatment. Brachytherapy is a procedure in which radioactive material is placed directly into or near a cancerous tumour.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Ramesh Billimagga, radiation oncologist and Director of the institute, said currently there were around 200 brachytherapy specialists in the country.

Creative programmes for children

The British Library will conduct a series of creative workshops for children aged between 6 and 16 from May 19 to May 25 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. On May 19 there will be a session on `Theatre and folk arts.' On May 20 the topic will be `Leadership and team building.' Workshops on `Fun with maths' and `Thinking skills' will be conducted on May 24 and May 25 respectively. For details call 22489220.

Entrepreneurship

development

Small Industries Services Institute will conduct a one-month Entrepreneurship Development Programme on readymade garments from Friday at the institute premises in Rajajinagar industrial estate. The programme is for the benefit of entrepreneurs who want to start self-employment ventures. There will be lectures and demonstrations for planning, organising and launching new readymade garments ventures. For details, call 9448487096.

Seminar

Sri Lakshmi Speciality Services will conduct free seminars on "Memory development and mind control" on Friday and Saturday between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. The seminars will be conducted at its centre in Basaveshwaranagar. For details, call 9448853545.

Summer camp

Bangalore Sharana Sahithya Parishat will conduct free summer camp coaching and competition programme for children aged between 8 and 15 between May 21 and May 27. The programme will be held at Sri Shivarathreshwara Chintana Mantapa, 8th Block, Jayanagar. For details, call 26549394.

Know the U.S.

The U.S Consulate will conduct "Know U.S. challenge" on May 20 at the American Corner, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road. This will bring together 40 students from all over South India to compete for the valuable prize. A student will be selected as the top "Indo-U.S. Student Ambassador" representing the State. The U.S Consulate has organised the competition for promoting knowledge of the U.S. culture.

The students knowledge about the U.S. history, politics, geography, culture, entertainment, arts and literature, will be tested.
