NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday led an all-party delegation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to expedite Central legislation to categorise scheduled castes in the State. The Scheduled Castes categorisation will help the most backward castes among them enjoy the benefits of reservation, the Chief Minister told the Prime Minister. He also said that the State Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution in this regard. The Prime Minister assured the delegation that he would talk to leaders of other political parties in Parliament and expedite the issue. The delegation consisted of State Ministers Koneru Ranga Rao and M. Mareppa, APCC president K. Kesava Rao, Nandi Yellaiah, Vittal Rao, Sarvey Satyanarayana, S. Sudhakar Reddy, all MPs, N. Indrasena Reddy, State BJP president, N. Narsimha Reddy, K. Ramulu, Syed Ahmed Pasha, D.K. Aruna, C. Venkat Reddy, Varaprasada Rao, all MLAs, Krishna Madiga and Kanaka Rao among others. (During his visit to the Capital, the Chief Minister met Union Tourism Minister Ambika Soni, Union Environment & Forests Minster A. Raja and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramdoss. Later talking to newspersons, Dr. Reddy said that he discussed State tourism projects, including modernisation of Charminar and Buddhist circuit project, with Ms. Soni. He also sought in principle approval for starting a Southern Splendour train on the lines of Palace on Wheels. He also requested the Centre to permit using Rs. 40 crore from the Compensatory Afforestation Funds for the ecological development of Kolleru lake in the State. The State sought Central assistance for the proposed health insurance for all below-the-poverty-line families.
