SINGAPORE: The suspected "tensions" between the chief of Fiji's military forces and the Government to be headed by the re-elected Prime Minister in the south Pacific state may hold the key for political stability there in the evolving post-poll situation. The apparent differences between Commodore Bainimarama of Fiji's armed forces and the re-elected Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, have fuelled speculation about the possibility of yet another military intervention in the country. Mahendra Chaudhry, leader of the Fiji Labour Party which came second in the poll, has been invited by Mr. Qarase to nominate 12 persons, out of whom seven could be chosen for Cabinet positions by Monday. Xinhua reports: Mr. Chaudhry on Friday accepted the Prime Minister's invitation to join a multi-party Cabinet. Mr. Chaudhry gave a letter of acceptance to Mr. Qarase, at a meeting which ended on Friday afternoon.
