NEW DELHI: In a sting operation aimed at exposing corruption in allotment of petrol pumps promised to relatives of police and para-military personnel killed in the terrorist attack on Parliament here in 2001, two officials of the Public Works Department were nabbed by the Faridabad police while allegedly taking bribe for issue of a "no-objection certificate". Deputy Superintendent of Police (Faridabad) Maharaj Singh said the accused, junior engineer S.P. Singhla and head draughtsman Sitaram Adlakhha, have been booked under anti-corruption laws. They were allegedly caught taking a bribe from a nephew of slain police Head Constable Bijendra Singh for issuing a no-objection certificate for allotment of a petrol pump to his widow, Jaiwati. The head draughtsman has been accused of taking Rs. 4,500 from the slain policeman's nephew, Ravinder. There was high drama during the sting operation as along with the police and Faridabad SDM Pushpendra Chauhan, media personnel and activists of the All India Anti-Terrorist Front, which had organised the sting operation, also reached the spot on receiving a signal from the complainant. AIATF Chief M.S. Bitta, who had conducted similar sting operations in Chandigarh and Bhatinda, said there was a need to ensure proper compliance of the promises made to the families of the martyrs. "Such acts of corruption are a cruel joke on the families of the brave men who laid down their lives while defending Parliament from terrorists," he said.
