Engineer's house raided

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday raided the office and residence of an Assistant Engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as he was suspected to be possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to the CBI, the raid was carried out at the offices and residence of O.P. Malik, who was posted at Najafgarh in South-West Delhi. The investigating agency said the engineer possessed disproportionate assets amounting to Rs. 30 lakhs.

The CBI also claimed to have recovered documents pertaining to the ownership of Santom Hospital in Prashant Vihar from the house of the accused. Malik, father of Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress president Amit Malik, also owned three houses in the Capital.

Stating that the Delhi High Court had directed that the CBI constitute a Special Task Force (STF), headed by an officer not below the rank of Joint Director, to probe the allegations of a nexus between MCD engineers and officials and their political bosses for allowing unauthorised constructions, a CBI official clarified that Friday's raids were not part of the action to be carried out by the STF.
