ANANTAPUR: Drops of polio vaccine were administered to lakhs of children in the age group of 0 to 5 years in the district on Sunday in the second phase of this year's intensive pulse polio immunisation drive. The drive was launched early in the day by District Collector Dasari Kadmial by administering pulse polio drops to a few children at Rajendra Municipal High School. Anantapur legislator B. Narayana Reddy, Mayor R. Parasuram and others also administered the pulse polio drops to children. Speaking at the launch, the Collector called upon the society to play its role in the eradication of polio from the district. Intensive efforts were on for the last 10 years to drive out police virus from the country, he said. There were about 5.06 lakh children in the age group of 0 to 5 years in the district who were eligible for administration of polio drops. In all, polio drops were administered at 3,627 stationary polio posts apart from the ones in the bus stations and railway stations. KURNOOL: Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy and MLA M.A. Gafoor launched the pulse polio programme at Municipal Upper Primary School in Ward 38 of the city on Sunday. Addressing the meeting, the Mayor said the pulse polio programme would be successful only when all children were vaccinated. Missing of even a single child would force repeating the vaccination.
