A work of Ratnabali Kant
NEW DELHI: A weeklong exhibition of paintings highlighting women's point of view by Kolkata-born artist Ratnabali Kant will open at Galerie Romain Rolland in Lodi Estate here beginning May 24. Titled "Red Under the Golden Halo", the exhibition features works of art on acrylic on canvas and acrylic on paper. For her upcoming exhibition, the artist, who is a painter, sculptor, dancer and performance artist all rolled into one, has highlighted the theme in close ups by using different shades of red colour. Dedicated to the famous art guru Prof. K.G. Subramanyan from whom the multi-talented artist received encouragement and support for her visual art installation, the exhibition will be curated by Prayag Shukla. All through her artistic career, Ratnabali whose paintings are generally figurative has responded to issues concerning human beings and highlighted the anguish faced by those at the receiving end. After completing her bachelor of fine arts in sculpture from Santiniketan, Ratnabali did her master of fine arts in creative sculpture, dissertation on zoomorphic motives in ancient Indian sculpture from the M.S. University in Baroda. After doing her doctoral research on Dynamic Elements in Ancient Greek Sculptures from the well-known Athens University in Greece from 1983 to 1986, she initiated performative visual art -- Installation Performance in India -- by giving performances, lecture-demonstrations and exhibited recorded videos. For the last 26 years she has been working as a professional artist.
