Federation seeks jobs for children of freedom fighters

PONDICHERRY: The Federation of Pondicherry State united Freedom Fighters Associations has urged Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to increase the pension paid to tyagis every month to Rs. 4,000.

Federation secretary M. Periyasamy said here on Saturday that a resolution was adopted felicitating Mr. Rangasamy on his becoming Chief Minister for the second successive term.

Federation president A. Arulraj, a senior citizen and a veteran freedom fighter, recalled the services rendered by tyagis for liberation of Pondicherry from the French regime.

Mr. Periyasamy said the increased pension should be announced on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Kamaraj on July 15. The federation also wanted jobs on priority basis for the children of the freedom fighters. Free house sites as was promised to them should be available without delay.
