KOZHIKODE: The Indian Music Therapy Research and Development Foundation (IMTRDF) and Swathi Tirunal Music Therapy Research Centre will jointly organise a workshop here on May 27 and 28 on music therapy. The workshop is part of efforts to study the possibilities of Indian music therapy and propagate the various education and job opportunities in the field. The workshop, to be held at Swathi Tirunal Kalakendram Trust (STKT), Thiruvannur, will discuss among other things facilities for acquiring doctorate degree and other post graduate degrees in music therapy for those who have already got degree or its equivalent qualification in instrumental music or vocal. The workshop, which will dwell on the scientific aspects and possibilities of application of Indian music therapy, will also discuss how music therapy can be utilised in hospitals, tourism sector and places where tragedies took place. The resource persons include M. Harre Harren, music therapist and director, IMTRDF, Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri, lyricist, Dr. Mohammed Shakeel, consultant physician and endocrinologist, Department of General Medicine, Kozhikode Medical College, and Dr. Bharathi, researcher in music therapy, Dr. C.K. Anilkumar, State general secretary of Kerala Alternative Medical Association, and Dr. Shakeel, general secretary, Calicut Association of Music Therapy, told mediapersons here on Saturday. Mayor M. Bhaskaran will inaugurate the workshop. Kozhikode Zamorin P.K.S. Raja will preside over.
