CHANDIGARH: The Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation has decided to expand its industrial growth centre at Bawal in a phased manner to meet unprecedented demand for industrial plots from multinational companies and domestic corporates. An official spokesman said here over the weekend that1,000 acres of additional land abutting the industrial growth centre had been acquired by invoking the urgency clause of Land Acquisition Act. The HSIDC was also impelled by the intention to counter the competition with the neighbouring State of Rajasthan as two of its industrial complexes, Bhiwadi and Neemrana, were located very close to Bawal. He pointed out that the first phase of this growth centre was set up about 15 years ago in a relatively backward area of Rewari district. The HSIDC had already developed and allotted about 1,200 acres of land. The prominent companies which were already in operation at Bawal included YKK, Nerolac Paints, Becton Dickinson and REI Agro. The centre also has dedicated sectors for housing, institutional and commercial activities. Provision has also been made for workers' housing for which land has already been allotted to some cooperative group housing societies besides the Haryana Housing Board.
