Free dental camp organised

CHENNAI : The Institute of Social Work and Research and Baskar Dental foundation jointly organised a free dental health camp at Hanumanthapuram, near Triplicane, on Saturday. Nearly 211 persons, including 159 children, attended the camp. They received medicines, toothbrushes and tooth powder.

Andhra Bank opens

new branch

A new branch of Andhra Bank was inaugurated at Mogappair on Friday. M. Anjaneya Prasad, deputy general manager, Chennai Zone, inaugurated the bank, which has locker and ATM facilities. Branches in Neelangarai, Manavalan Nagar (Tiruvellore) and Villivakkam are to inaugurate shortly

Classes on communication skills

Janodayam, a voluntary organisation for Adi Andhra people conducted free summer coaching classes on communication skills and English grammar for students of Class 12. Nearly 200 students from corporation schools attended the programme.

Anti-Terrorism Day pledge

Chennai Port Trust observed anti-terrorism Day on Sunday. K.Suresh, chairman of the Chennai Port Trust, read out the pledge for the observance of anti-terrorism Day. The Government of India desires to observe May 21st every year as Anti-Terrorism Day in order to generate a sense of awareness about the dangers of terrorism and violence.

Book on dementia released

Dr. R. Sathianathen, professor of Psychiatry, Madras Medical College, released a Tamil book on `Goodbye to Dementia' authored by Geriatrician Dr.V.S.Natarajan at Kumaran Hospital on Saturday.

The booklet deals with common queries on Dementia.

A Dementia screening camp was also conducted in which 70 persons (above 60 years of age) were examined.

Rotary honour for

Avvai Natarajan

Members of The Rotary Club of Chenna Patna recently conferred the `For the sake of honour' award on Avvai Natarajan for his contributions to literature and culture of Tamilnadu. The club placed on record the veteran's ability to blend real life episodes with literary references that left thousands of listeners spell bound.

Japanese scholarships

Monbukagakusho, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Government of Japan offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study in Japanese professional training college or other Japanese universities.

Applicants must be in the age group 17-21 years as on April 1, 2007. Application forms may be obtained the Consulate-General of Japan, Culture and Information Department, 12/1, Cenetoph Road, Teynampet on production of a requisition letter.
