Prisoner injured in jail brawl

Ithris reportedly got into a scuffle with fellow inmate on Saturday

CHENNAI : A prisoner was admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital (RGH) on Saturday night with neck injuries following a brawl in jail with another inmate.

According to police, Ithris, a 30-year-old prisoner, who was serving a sentence for selling drugs, got into a scuffle with a fellow prisoner in Central Jail on Saturday evening. Ithris, believed to be from Madhya Pradesh, was injured in the scuffle when the fellow inmate picked up a sharp instrument and slit his throat. Ithris was rushed to RGH, where he is undergoing treatment.

In another incident, Bhoopathi (30), also an inmate of Central Prison, died at the hospital on Sunday morning. The Virugambakkam Police arrested Bhoopathi, a resident of Saligramam, in connection with a murder. Bhoopathi had diabetes and was being treated at the RGH.

Run over by bus

Pandian, a 27-year-old cyclist was run over by an MTC bus near Guindy on Saturday evening. According to police, the bus driver tried to overtake the cyclist who was overtaking a car. Pandian, a dhobi by profession, was on his way to deliver the clothes when the accident happened. He died on the spot and his body was taken to RGH.

An MTC bus near Kathipara junction in Guindy knocked down Jude White, a resident of Seven Wells Street in St. Thomas Mount, who was on a two-wheeler on Saturday evening. Mr. White was on his way to Poonamallee when the accident occurred. He was rushed to Sri Ramachandra Hospital in Porur but was declared dead on arrival. Police said he had died on the way. His body has been sent to the SRMC morgue.
