BANGALORE: Several children and their parents were injured in a stampede at a function to distribute free notebooks and schoolbags at Padarayanapura on Sunday. The event was organised by a social service organisation at the Cheluvappa Garden in Padarayanapura. A large number of children and their parents started gathering at the venue since early morning, the police said. As Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who was supposed to inaugurate the event, did not turn up, Chamarajpet MLA Jameer Ahmed inaugurated the event. Then there was a sudden rush as children and parents rushed towards the podium. Several children and parents fell to the ground in the melee and were injured.
