This Day That Age
Acharya Vinoba Bhave told the people of Sriperumbudur on May 22 that the set-up of villages in Tamil Nad was conducive not only to bhoodan but to gramdan (village gifts). He said that in every place in Tamil Nad there was a temple around which people lived and around which the villages were built. It had been brought to his notice that though the set-up was conducive, there was want of spirit. "I have come to kindle that spirit in you," he added. Acharya Bhave, who was addressing a prayer meeting, said Sriperumbudur was well-known as the birthplace of Sri Ramanuja, whose teachings had spread from Kashmir to Cape Comorin. They had a mutt in Ayodhya for the propagation of his philosophy and Tulsidas and Kabirdas were the disciples of Ramananda who propagated the teachings of Ramanuja. Sriperumbudur could be proud of having given birth to such a great man, he said.
