ONGOLE: Five workers, including three women, died when an arch they were constructing in Kesavaraju colony in Mangamuru donka collapsed here on Tuesday. Some 15 workers, who sustained injuries, were admitted to government hospital where the condition of two was stated to be critical. slab for the arch around 3.45 p.m. when it collapsed. The five workers were crushed to death.Other workers suffered grievous injuries. As the accident occurred close to the District Police Office, armed reserve police rushed to the place and rescued the workers caught in the debris. District Collector B. Udaya Lakshmi visited the place and announced an ex gratia of Rs. 50,000 each to the kin of the victims. She said the Endowments Minister had agreed to pay an ex gratia of Rs. 1 lakh each to the kin additionally.
