Order security to Vaiko: AIADMK, MDMK urge PM
Special Correspondent
New Delhi:
Members of Parliament belonging to the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Tuesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here and pleaded for ordering police protection to MDMK general secretary Vaiko and his family who, they said, were facing threats to their lives.
The delegation led by P.G. Narayanan of the AIADMK presented a memorandum giving details of alleged attacks aimed at Mr. Vaiko and his family. MDMK leader L. Ganesan told the Prime Minister about the urgency of providing them security cover.
Mr. Narayanan also said that after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam came to power the security cover for AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa was reduced. He pleaded for continuance of the security that obtained before.
Manmohan's assurance
According to C. Krishnan of the MDMK, the Prime Minister shared the concern of the delegation and said "Mr. Vaiko is a national leader. There must be protection for all leaders whichever party they belong to. I will thoroughly go through the petition and instruct the Home Minister to take necessary action for the full protection of Mr. Vaiko."
