Indian Army beats HAL

KARUR: Indian Army (New Delhi) defeated HAL (Bangalore) 72-53 in a semifinal league match of the 51st LRG Naidu memorial Cup all-India basketball tournament here on Tuesday.

The contest looked like going right down to the wire when Army had a slender 21-20 lead at the end of the first quarter.

However, with the HAL players fumbling time and again, Army galloped to a 60-36 lead by the third quarter. S. Subbiah and Jaswant Singh scored 12 points each for the winner.

In the women's event for the KCP Indrani memorial Cup, Central Railway eased past Kerala State Basketball Association 66-45 in a league match. Manisha was the top scorer with 14 points.
