PATHANAMTHITTA: `Divya Sangeetotsav-2006,' organised by the Department of Sacred Music and Communications (DSMC), attached to Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, will be held in Thiruvalla from Friday to Sunday. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, DSMC director Fr. Sajan P. Mathew said the three-day music festival would be held at the DSMC auditorium on the SC Seminary Hills in the heart of Thiruvalla. The DSMC was founded four decades ago by the late Rev. K.P. Philip. It is for the first time a three-day devotional music festival is being organised by the DSMC in Thiruvalla. Fr. Sajan said the three-day musical event would comprise eastern, western and Syrian music concerts, workshops on liturgical music, felicitation meetings and a congregation of choir groups from various Mar Thoma parishes. Fr. Sajan said select devotional songs of the veteran lyricist P.D. George will be presented from 5.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. A workshop on liturgical hymns will be held at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday. Fr. M.P. George of the Sruthi School of Liturgical Music, attached to the Old Seminary in Kottayam, will lead the workshop. The Mar Thoma Sunday School Samajam will organise the workshop. Samajam president Abraham Mar Paulos Episcopa will address the function. Devotional songs written by the DSMC founder director would be presented later in the evening in `Rev. K.P. Philip Gaana Sandhya,' Fr. Sajan said. He said `Praise and Prayer', a congregation of choirs attached to different Mar Thoma parishes, would be held at 4.30 p.m. on Sunday. The Sumoro Choir from Kottayam will present the Syrian music fest at 6 p.m. Mar Thoma Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostum would inaugurate the valedictory function at 7.30 p.m. Fr. Sajan said Mar Chrysostum would inaugurate the modern multimedia centre of the DSMC on the occasion.Audio mixing engineer Ajith Abraham who has won this year's State award will be felicitated at the valedictory meet.
