Deve Gowda writes to Chief Minister on compensation
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE:
Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda has written to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on the delay in payment of compensation to the next of kin of farmers who committed suicide over the past few years. In the letter on Saturday, Mr. Deve Gowda said cases of suicide by farmers were brought to his notice at a meeting in Hassan (Guruvandana programme) on May 15. The farmers took the extreme step because they could not clear their dues, and their families should be adequately compensated. In cases where farmers committed suicide after receiving notices from banks or societies for non-payment of loans, the Government should clear the dues and ensure that mortgaged property was returned to the farmers' families, Mr. Deve Gowda said.
