Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday ordered a CBI inquiry into the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai in Uttar Pradesh last year. The order was passed by a two-judge Bench comprising Justice Amitav Lala and Justice Shiv Shankar on a petition filed by Alka Rai, BJP MLA and wife of the slain legislator. The court also ordered the State Government, which is currently probing the case, to hand over the inquiry to CBI. Meanwhile, the U.P. Government said it would consider filing an appeal against the High Court order after studying the judgment. ``We are yet to receive a copy of the judgment. A decision about appealing against the order will be taken only after studying the order,'' Principal Secretary Home S. K. Agarwal told newsmen in Lucknow. Directing an inquiry by CBI, the court said irrespective of forwarding of chargesheet or final report by civil police, the matter be investigated by the investigating agency. In case such a report has been filed and court has taken cognisance, the complainant may move an application for further inquiry by CBI and it would be granted Ruling Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari, his younger brother and don-turned-Independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari and their brother-in-law Ejaj are prime accused in the case. The Ansari brothers and Ejaj are presently lodged in Ghazipur jail Rai, an MLA from Mohammadabad Aassembly constituency in Ghazipur district, and seven of his supporters were shot dead in broad daylight in Ghazipur on November 29 last year. Later, a FIR was lodged at Ghazipur against 10 persons.PTI/ UNI
