NEW DELHI: Three men allegedly owing allegiance to underworld don Fazl-ur-Rehman have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for trying to extort Rs. 1 crore from a garment exporter. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar, the South Delhi-based businessman recently lodged a complaint that he had been receiving extortion calls from a Dubai number. The caller would identify himself as Vicky, a close accomplice of Fazlu, and demand Rs. 1 crore as protection money. Acting on the complaint, a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Rishipal Singh mounted surveillance at about 11 public booths in the Capital from where the extortion calls were made. On Monday, two persons came to a Sarita Vihar public booth in South Delhi and were making yet another extortion call to the businessman when they were arrested. They were identified as Gufran Khan and Prashant. At their instance, the police arrested Miraj Khan.
