VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Comprehensive Sewerage Scheme providing underground drainage (UGD) is ready in full or in parts in about 15 wards in the city and people of these areas may take the UGD connections free of cost for disposal of sullage. According to Municipal Commissioner N. Srikant, a separate sewerage system for effective disposal of sullage and polluted water from the premises is provided and another and an entirely distinct drain for disposal of rainwater and unpolluted sub-soil matter also provided in Wards 1, 2, 3, 4 (part), 6 (p), 7 (p), 8, 9 (p), 10 (p), 13, 16 (p), 17, 18 (p), 19 (p), and 20 under the scheme. The areas covered include Kotaveedhi, Ambusarangi Street, Thompson Street, Soldierpeta, Laxmi Talkies area, Woodyard Street, Kanakamahalakshmi temple area, Town Hall Road, Pappula Veedhi, Relliveedhi, Town main road, Agraharam Road, AVN College area, Official Colony, Krishna Nagar, Maharanipeta, Jalaripeta, Paindorapeta, Ramajogipeta, Dandu Bazar area, Anthony Nagar, Dabagardens, 75-feet Road, Income-Tax office area, Police Barracks, Durgalamma temple area, Ram Nagar and Allipuram. Here after, disposal of sullage and polluting water into rainwater drains in these areas is illegal. The residents of these areas should take the free UGD connections by applying to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.
