Workable plan

The alternative plan on reservation suggested in the two-part series (May 22, 23) is administratively viable. It is likely to be acceptable to all groups of people, in contrast to the one proposed by the Human Resource Development Ministry that uses caste as the sole criterion.

Pavan Kumar,
Vasco-da-Gama, Goa

Unlike pro-reservation politicians and anti-reservation students, the authors express genuine concern for the eradication of the multi-faceted social injustices that exist in India. Most importantly, their proposal is based on facts and figures rather than on emotions. As the authors suggest, addressing caste injustice must go hand-in-hand with rectifying inequalities based on class, gender, and the rural-urban divide.

Ramnath Subbaraman,
Midland, Texas
