Repeal of TESMA

The DMK Government's repeal of the Tamil Nadu Essential ServicesMaintenance Act (TESMA), "keeping in mind the interests of government employees" makes one wonder. The politician's creed (with due apologies to Field Marshal Chetwode) appears to be: "Your own ease, comfort and safety come first, always and every time. The honour, welfare and comfort of the government employees come next. The safety, honour and welfare of your country come last, always and every time."

Cdr. Arun Visvanathan (retd.),
