OPENING TODAY: Controversy apart, `Fanaa' marks the comeback of actress Kajol.
The controversy surrounding the release of `Fanaa' in Delhi seems to have died down. With Yash Raj Films quite confident that the movie will be released in most multiplexes this Friday, viewers in the Capital will be able to get see Kajol making her long awaited comeback on the sliver screen. While the deal between the multiplex owners and Yash Raj Films is "under wraps", a compromise seems to have been struck and big multiplexes like Adlabs and even PVR cinemas are on board to screen the film. "We have come to a mutual agreement with the distributor which is beneficial for both of us. There was nothing new about these negotiations, though; this is a process that happens with all films. Only, this time it was blown out of proportion," said PVR Vice-President (Cinema Market and Promotions) Saurabh Varma.
`Fanaa' surely has had more than its share of controversy. Apart from being banned in Gujarat -- for Aamir Khan's support to the Narmada Bachao Andolan -- it had also run trouble with exhibitors as Yash Raj Films wanted a higher profit margin from multiplex owners. But like all controversies with films, this one too looks set to add to the collections at the box office. With the movie moving from a good opening slot to a grand opening because of this tussle, this weekend will be all about films that share the same "troubled" tag. Apart from `Fanaa', the other major release is the much talked about `The Da Vinci Code'. "It surely is a big weekend this week in terms of releases. There is `X-Men III', too, in addition to `The Da Vinci Code' and `Fanaa'," said Mr. Varma.
