Over 4 lakh candidates apply for 1,000 posts

  • Examination being conducted after 10 years
  • It will be held at 47 centres in 21 taluks
  • Selection based on exam; no interview

    BANGALORE: The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) has received over 4.45 lakh applications for 1,000 posts of junior assistant/second division assistant to be filled through direct recruitment in the Department of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, the State Secretariat, the Directorate of Municipal Administration and the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal (KAT).

    KPSC Chairman H.N. Krishna told presspersons here on Thursday that the commission had rejected 10,565 applications on various counts. A total of 4,33,400 candidates (1,55,829 women) were eligible to write the examination to be held next month. The Government was conducting an examination for recruitment to the posts after 10 years, he said.

    Although 1,000 posts have been notified, the existing number of vacancies is 717. Of the 717 vacant posts, 625 were in the Department of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, 84 in the secretariat, seven in the Directorate of Municipal Administration and a lone post in the KAT, he said.

    The examination would be held simultaneously at 47 centres in 21 taluks.

    The candidates had to appear for two papers and the posts would be filled on the basis of their performance in the examination. There would be no interview, he added.
