Eluru
Staff Reporter
ELURU: The West Godavari district administration is preparing the ground for procurement of the discoloured paddy during recent rains in parts of the district in line with the government directives. As part of the endeavour the Civil Supplies Department has opened paddy purchase centres at Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Tanuku, Penumantra, Kapavaram, Undi, Palacole, Narsapur, Jangareddygudem, Paturu (Bhimadole mandal) and Pedapadu, according to Collector Lav Agarwal. As per the relaxations by the government in the Fair Average Quality (FAQ) specifications, the paddy with discoloured sprouts would be purchased at the centres with value cuts for each percentage of relaxation at the rate of Rs. 6 for grade-A and Rs. 5.70 for grade-B varieties, the Collector added.
Funds released
Meanwhile, Mr Agarwal said that the State government has released Rs. 5.45 crores for payments of compensation to the farmers who suffered a heavy crop loss during the rains in September and October last year. Nearly 28,000 hectares of crops were submerged due to the rains in the district at that time. The amount would be paid to the small and marginal farmers covered by the crop insurance scheme.
