Lucknow: Noted film actress Jaya Bachchan, who was disqualified from her Rajya Sabha seat in the wake of the `office of profit' controversy, will contest the by-poll to the Upper House from Uttar Pradesh on Samajwadi Party ticket. This was announced by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav while addressing a meeting of the party block presidents and panchayat members here on Thursday. By-elections to the two Rajya Sabha seats vacated by the disqualification of Jaya Bachchan and resignation of industrialist Anil Ambani would be held on June 15. Questioning Jaya's disqualification, Mr. Yadav said she did not accept a ``single penny'' as Chairperson of the State Film Development Corporation. He said the Centre should have brought the Bill on the `office of profit' before her disqualification. Ms. Bachchan had on Wednesday resigned as Chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation. She would be filing her nomination papers on June 2. She had resigned from the UPFDC chair earlier before being elected to the Upper House of Parliament on the SP ticket on July 4, 2004 but was reappointed to the post 10 days later. -PTI
