NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the Chief Engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to file a status report informing how many unauthorised speed breakers the civic body had removed in the city. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice S.N. Aggarwal directed the civic body's official to file the status report on September 7. On a public interest litigation, the High Court had in October 2005 directed the MCD remove all unauthorised speed beakers in the Capital. The petitioner had informed the Court that thousands of unauthorised speed beakers had been built in the city creating hurdles in the smooth movement of traffic. When the Bench on Thursday took up the petition for further hearing, the Corporation submitted a status report saying that so far it had removed 2,500 unauthorised speed beakers across the city However, the petitioner challenged the local body's claim and informed the Bench that the Corporation had not complied with the order earnestly as thousands of unauthorised speed beakers still existed all over the city.
