CHANDIGARH: Haryana Minister of State for Forests Kiran Choudhry has instructed the officials of the Forests Department to carry out forestation in the Tikkar Tal area of Morni in the planting season immediately after the onset of the monsoon. Presiding over a meeting of the officers here recently, she directed that 3,500 saplings be planted on the private lands belonging to farmers as they had shown preference for lemon, mango, guava, pomegranate, bamboo, amaltas, amla and gulmohar, etc. The Department would also supply fruit plant and ornamental plant seedlings free of cost to the farmers besides providing necessary technical guidance periodically. She added that afforestation would also be carried out on a large scale on Government forest land surrounding both the Tikkar Tals. Nearly 66,000 saplings of papri, teak, bakain, jakaranda, khair, cassia glauca, bamboo, amaltas, amla, gulmohar, casia nodusa and so on would be planted. This would not only `green' the hilly area but also promote eco-tourism in the region. Ms. Choudhry further disclosed that a series of meetings had already been held with the local private farmers and they had been persuaded to plant saplings alongside the boundaries of their agricultural fields.
