JAIPUR: A participatory educational programme, "Janbodh Karyakram", to cover 324 deprived localities of the Rajasthan Capital was launched here on Wednesday. The programme, a part of the Rajasthan Education Initiative, is expected to benefit 2 lakh children from age 0 to adolescence. Education Minister Ghanshyam Tiwari launched the programme at a public function. "Janbodh Karyakram" is a followup on the signing of a memorandum of understanding between C.K. Mathew, Principal Secretary, School and Sanskrit Education, Rajasthan, and Yogendra, secretary, Bodh Shiksha Samiti, in October 2005. It is to serve as a model in public-private partnership in educational development. A collective endeavour of communities, the Government, and civil society the programme has the support of European Union, Agha Khan Foundation, American Indian Foundation, UNICEF, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Banyan Tree Foundation, ITC and SSA Rajasthan. "Janbodh Karyakram" will be eventually extended to six divisional headquarters -- Bikaner, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota and Alwar -- to benefit children of three age groups, 0-5 years, 6-14 years and adolescent girls. Set up in 1987, Bodh Shiksha Samiti, is a non-profit NGO working in the slums of Jaipur city, to address the need of quality education of the marginalized population.
