Power shutdown

There will be no power supply on Friday in parts of the city between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. because of emergency maintenance work in the E8 sub-division. The affected areas are Banasawadi, HRBR 1st and 2nd Block, Subbaiannapalya, R.S. Palya, Kammanahalli Main Road and Senavihar.

Computer training

Director-General of Employment and Training Coaching-cum-Guidance Centre for SC/STs will conduct a free six-month computer training programme through reputed centres in the city for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes unemployed graduates living in Bangalore rural and urban districts. Graduates who have studied either mathematics or economics or statistics or commerce and whose annual family income is lower than Rs. 40,000 can apply before May 30. Legal aid for elders

Elders Helpline 1090 is offering free legal advice on every Thursday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at its office in the premises of the Police Commissioner's office on Infantry Road. Interested elders can call 11090 for details.

Phone lines hit

The services of 160 telephone lines have been affected because of damage to underground cables during construction of drainage system by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) in Pai Layout. Areas affected are 16th B, C, D, and E cross roads of Pai Layout. The services are likely to be restored in another two days.

Eye camp

Padmabhushan M.C. Modi Charitable Eye Hospital will conduct a free diabetic eye check-up camp on May 28 at the hospital premises in Mahalakshmi Layout between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Details can be had on ph: 23492233.

Killed in accident

A pedestrian was killed after a scooter hit him on New BEL Road around 11 p.m. on Wednesday. The police gave the name of the dead as H.N. Nagaraj (48), a resident of Nagashettyhalli. R.T. Nagar traffic police have seized the scooter and registered a case.
