Bearing the knowledge torch

Staff Reporter

  • Tirupati Utsavam seeks to remove `darkness of ignorance'
  • 600 members take part in the rally carrying torchlights

IN THE LINE OF LIGHT: TUDA Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy and M. Venkataramana, MLA, leading the procession of torches in Tirupati on Friday

TIRUPATI: In the run-up to `Tirupati Utsavam' beginning May 29, a torchlight procession was taken through the arterial roads of the town on Friday evening. The procession started at Mahati auditorium, the venue of the fete, and culminated at the Indira maidanam, where cultural programmes are scheduled to be conducted on all the three days.

A number of persons took part in the procession carrying burning torchlights (Kaagadalu) with tell-tale banners carrying captions on the need to inculcate values through spiritualism, for which Tirupati is synonymous. The theme that the organisers apparently laid emphasis on by carrying the torches was the need to remove the "darkness of ignorance" by spreading the "light of knowledge". Led by TUDA Chairman and TTD board member B. Karunakar Reddy, around 600 members took part in the rally carrying torches.
