End strike, NHRC asks medicos

Staff Correspondent

It expresses concern over denial of healthcare to the sick

NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission on Friday appealed to doctors and medical students to call off their hunger-strike against reservation for Other Backward Classes in Central educational institutions. It expressed concern over their deteriorating health and at denial of health care to the sick, as a result of the strike, in government hospitals.

Describing the reservation issue as "complex," the Commission said the government should ensure a "balanced and orderly development" of all sections and classes while implementing its policy. It should examine the issue thoroughly so that justice was not denied to any section or class.
