Belgium trade official holds talks in Pondy

Pondicherry: The Trade Commissioner of Flanders (Belgium) Jayant Nadiger has met officials of the Pondicherry Industries Promotion Development and Investment Corporation (PIPDIC) to discuss trade and business opportunities.

Mr. Nadiger, who is based at Bangalore, was on a two-day visit to Pondicherry.

Incentives

Mr. Rattan Singh, Managing Director of PIPDIC, apprised Mr. Nadiger of the incentives and subsidies and provided to entrepreneurs setting up industries here. Mr. Singh said the Pondicherry Government was giving a major thrust to the Special Economic Zone to encourage setting up of IT- related units and automobile industries.

Mr. Nadiger said that Export Viaanderen and the Flanders Foreign Investment Office were responsible for promoting exports of Flemish technology, products and services and for attracting investments in Flanders.

The Flanders Trade Commissioner, assists Flemish companies in their exports and investment ventures in the four southern States and Pondicherry.

The Flemish office in Bangalore had been promoting Flemish industry in the region and had helped to establish a good number of ventures.

Mr. Nadiger said that Belgium was well known for port development projects.

Meeting

Mr. Singh suggested to Mr. Nadiger that a meeting could be arranged between the Belgium authorities and Pondicherry entrepreneurs to identify areas of common interest.

Technology upgradation, pharmaceutical development, food processing and port development were sectors which could be promoted in Pondicherry, it was felt. The Trade Commissioner is scheduled to meet Chief Minister N. Rangasamy during his visit.
