Manila : India's Digvijay Singh carded a two-under 70 to move to tied 17th as five Indians made the cut at the 90th Philippine Open golf tournament here on Friday. Australian Scott Strange shares the lead with Yeh Chang-ting of Chinese Taipei at six-under-138 to stay a stroke ahead of Chris Rodgers, who carded a 69. Gurbaaz Mann remains in the 25th place at two-over 146 after a second successive round of 73 and is joined by Kolkata pro S.S.P. Chowrasia. The other Indians to make the cut were Harmeet Kahlon (148) and Uttam Singh Mundy (149). Those who fell by the wayside were Jaiveer Virk (151), Gaurav Ghei (151), Harinder Gupta (152), Amritinder Singh (152) and Arjun Singh (158).
Randhawa 32nd
Jyoti Randhawa had a decent opening round of 71 that earned him a share of the 32nd spot but compatriot Jeev Milkha Singh will have to raise his game by a few notches to make the cut after a round of 73 in the BMW PGA championship at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water.
A single birdie
Meanwhile at Memphis, a birdie on the ninth was the only saving grace as Arjun Atwal carded a six-over 70 opening round in the $5.2 million FedEx St. Jude Classic. The Orlando-based Indian, playing his back-nine first, found himself struggling for form once again and gave a forgettable performance to be tied 119th.
Viraat finishes second
Playing superb golf, promising youngster Viraat Badhwar finished runner-up at the 27th Junior Asia pacific championship in Singapore on Friday. In the team event, India finished sixth overall. The Delhi boy finished with a tally of one-over par 217. Lavery Kumar, playing in an individual capacity, finished eighth overall in girls' Category B, while Sharmila Nicollete stood 16th and Vaishavi 17th in Category A.
