Innovative scheme to help students of State-run schools

  • Merit students to get free seats in corporate colleges
  • College managements and philanthropists come forward to help students
  • Eligible candidates asked to enrol their names

NELLORE : SSC students, who have either secured 500 and above marks or those who stood first in BC, SC and tribal welfare hostels, zilla parishad high schools or any other Government-run schools have something to cheer about.

All of them can now pursue their two-year Intermediate course in premier corporate colleges such as Narayana, Sri Chaitanya and Ratnam without paying any fee to the college managements. Thanks to the initiative of District Collector M. Ravi Chandra for taking up an innovate scheme for helping students of the Government-run schools and hostels in Nellore district. Under this initiative, all these students could pursue the Intermediate course free of cost.

    Rare gesture

This means, both their tuition as well as hostel fee will completely be borne by philanthropists and college managements, Mr. Ravi Chandra told The Hindu on Friday.

If the current fee structure is any indication, all corporate colleges have been charging in the range of Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 50,000 per annum for the Intermediate course.

With several philanthropists such as J.S. Reddy and P. Venkaiah coming forward to help students of Government schools financially, all these students could now pursue the two-year course free of cost.

"As of now, we were able to identify 125 students. And we have asked parents, students as well as teachers to contact the District Education Office to avail of the initiative.

They can enrol their names either by person or by contacting the District Collector over the phone No. 2331999 and 2324374 or the DEO over 2327852.
