HUBLI: Hubli will get two "Varuna" vehicles (advanced fire extinguishers) manufactured with German technology, in the next two days, I.F Badabade, Regional Fire Brigade Officer, has said. Speaking at the inauguration of the new fire station here on Friday, he said these vehicles (Varuna) had the capacity to convert a drop of water into 1,200 microns and would be useful especially during electricity-related fire accidents. He said the new fire station would have two fire extinguisher vehicles estimated at Rs. 25 lakh each. The strength of the staff would be 12. With the setting up of the new fire station, a long-pending demand of the residents of Hubli had been fulfilled, he said. Narayan Nadamani, Police Commissioner, Hubli-Dharwad, inaugurated the Hubli Fire Station, built at a cost of Rs. 9.5 lakh. B.K. Hampagol, Chief Fire Officer, told presspersons that Hubli Fire Station was the 53rd fire station in North Karnataka and 127th in the State. Mr. Hampgol said Dharwad city would get a fire station shortly. There was a plan to set up fire station at all taluks and big towns in the State with the assistance of Asian Development Bank at a cost of Rs. 324 crore. Under the North Karnataka Infrastructure Development Project, 52 new fire stations would be set up, he said.
