BANGALORE: All India Radio will organise a music competition for discovering and encouraging new talent among young artistes. The competition will be held in two stages: a preliminary competition, which will be conducted at each station of the AIR, and the finals, which will be held in Delhi and Chennai for Hindustani and Carnatic music, respectively. The competition will cover the following categories: vocal music - classical, light and folk music (Hindustani and Carnatic); light classical (Hindustani); instrumental music - classical, light and folk music (Hindustani and Carnatic), and vrindgaan (chorus). An entry fee of Rs. 100 is to be sent to the Station Director of the respective station by money order. Those interested in participating should seek application forms from the Station Director of the nearest AIR station. The last date for receipt of entries is June 26. The competition will be open to those between 16 and 24 years (as on June 30, 2006), and those who are not artistes of AIR, approved and graded by LAC/MAB, and those who have not been graded in any LAC/MAB auditions held by AIR stations. The preliminary competition will be held from August 17 to August 31.
