Five Additional Judges for Delhi High Court

NEW DELHI: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Friday appointed five new Additional Judges of the Delhi High Court -- Kailash Gambhir, Gurindar Singh Sistani, S. Muralidhar, Hima Kohli and Vipin Sanghi -- in that order of seniority for a period of two years from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.

Function dedicated to Slavonic culture

NEW DELHI: The Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in collaboration with the Indian Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries organised a function dedicated to "The Day of Slavonic Script and Culture'' here on Thursday.

RCSC Deputy Director Sergey V. Cherkas made a presentation on "Slavonic Culture and India'', pointing out similarities between Russia and other Slav countries like Bulgaria, Belarus and Ukraine and India in the spheres of languages, ancient religions, customs and festivals. A photo exhibition on "Architectural Treasures of Russia'' by Bulgarian Ambassador Dragovest Goranov was inaugurated.

Candlelight march by Youth Congress

NEW DELHI: Indian Youth Congress activists led by its president Ashok Tanwar took out a candlelight march from the IYC headquarters to India Gate here on Thursday evening to condemn the recent spurt in terrorist activities in the country, especially Jammu and Kashmir, where in the past few days many innocent civilians have been killed.

Mr. Tanwar said it was responsibility of the youth to spread the message of peace.

Traffic congestion

NEW DELHI: Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia on Friday called for coordinated efforts and a workable action plan to overcome the problem of traffic congestion in Delhi. Also, he said that sites should be identified for construction of foot over-bridges and zebra crossings for the convenience of pedestrians.

He gave the direction to the traffic police at a meeting convened here on Friday to consider measures to overcome difficulties arising out of long traffic jams.

Vastu Shastra

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit released a book, "The Fusion of Two Science: Web Vastu", at her residence here earlier this week.

The book, written by Vastu consultant and interior designer Smita Jain Narang, has been published by Sterling Publications. It provides guidelines for developers of websites as per the age-old concepts of Vastu Shastra and also suggests layouts and design formats that help achieve the desired results.
